shopping lists 2.0

You will soon be able to download the new version from the marketplace.

Various improvements where made in performance and usability. Now it has a panorama view, supports pin to start and import/export from skydrive. The way how you create a list has is now simplified and for each shop you can specify the categories in the order of the shop layout and choose favorite articles for each shop. As before, you can compose your lists by selecting articles from your favorites, or add them on the fly.

here are some pictures:

Shopping Lists update

I’m currently working on a new versions for shopping lists.

The first release was designed to work prior to mango. But now with mango, there are new features available such as pin to start so I can change the page navigation in order to simplify the usage.

the new release will scroll very smoothly and use a sql database instead of plain xml files. You will be able to specify shops and their layouts, which means, that you can set the order and availability of categories for each shop.

Shopping Lists uses an article pool which is independant of any shop, but you can specify for each shop which articles are available by default when you compose a new shopping list. Excluded articles will still be available with the new search feature which replaces the alphabetic view. Articles can of course be added while composing a list. For each shop you can create on list which is available as long as there are incomplete articles on it.

Lists can be exported and imported from skydrive. It will also be possible to backup and restore the complete data with all shops, categories and article pool on skydrive.

shopping lists 1.1 submitted to marketplace

featuring:

  • feature to decide wether to keep or delete items in a list after completing
    shopping tour
  • improved scrolling behavior in lists (no distraction when a lists stops
close to either end of the list)
  • animation when items are removed or deleted from a list
  • new import/export with pc functionality in conjunction with the freely
    available PhoneExchangeService.

Update (2011-05-27):

submitting the update failed as a bug has been detected which is now resolved and version 1.1 has been resubmited. hold on…

Phone Exchange Service

While Microsoft is still testing Shopping Lists, I’m working on an update which will include the ability to Import and Export shopping lists from/to pc. This will become possible with a common window service named “Phone Exchange Service” I’m developing. This service will not only work for shopping lists but for any WP7 app that uses the service. When it’s ready, I will publish it to codeplex for other WP7 developers to use.

My idea of export/import between email and copy&paste is unfortunately not working as expected. When the message body of an email becomes too large, the app crashes, when it’s not too large but very large, the email shows a weird behavior, for instance stretching the text and copying is not possible.
