Passwords 3.0
Password stores your passwords with additional information on your windows phone. All passwords are protected by a master password. Each password can be categorized with one ore more categories. When you create a new password, a selectable master category determines what fields are available. Additional fields can be added to any password. All passwords are available as an alphabetic list with quick jump selector, a category list and a favorite list. There’s also a password generator available which also allows to check the strength of a password. – Some categories are already available, but you can also add, edit or delete your own categories and determine the fields of any category. Categories with fields can be used to create a password, while categories without fields are for additional grouping of passwords. You can easily backup and restore your data either on Skydrive or with a Pc connection if you have the pc version installed. If you do have the pc version, you can even sync your data and not only between one pc, you can sync with as much pcs as you want and even choose a category filter for some or all pcs so only passwords with some specific categories are synced with a pc. For instance, you can set the sync filter for your office pc to sync only the office category in order to keep your private passwords from your office pc.

Backup und restore ist einfach über Skydrive oder über einen Pc möglich, wenn die Pc Version von Passwords installiert ist. In diesem Fall können sie sogar Ihre Daten mit dem Pc Synchronisieren so dass beide immer auf dem gleichen Stand sind. Die Synchronisation ist mit mehreren Pc’s möglich und pro Pc kann optional ein Kategorienfilter gesetzt werden, so dass nur Passwörter mit den angegebenen Kategorien über den Pc gefiltert werden. So kann man z.b. für den Bürocomputer angeben, nur Passwörter der Kategorie “Büro” zu filtern und die privaten Passwörter werden nicht mit dem Bürocomputer synchronisiert.
Passwords hat eine schnelle Metrooberfläche mit nahtlosen Übergangen, so dass man keine Verzögerung bemerkt wenn man durch die Seiten navigiert wie es in anderen Apps der Fall ist. Passwords ist die professionellste und fortgeschrittenste Passwortverwaltungs-App die für Windows Phone existiert.

Programm funktioniert grundsätzlich gut.
In einer neuen Kategorie kann ein Feld mit Typ Datum erstellt und gespeichert werden. Sobald dieses ‘Template’ aber ausgefüllt werden soll, stürzt es ab. Gleiches Feld mit einem anderen Typ (z.Bsp. Standard) geht es.
Habe das sync Tool installiert und die Daten synchronisiert. Vielleicht gibt es einen Zusammenhang?

mit der alten Version von Desktop Passwords ist das aufgetreten. mit dem Update sollte es allerdings nicht mehr passieren.
I like this application; however, I cannot get the import function to work, nor does the sync with laptop work. I have v1.0.0.48 installed on my Win 7 laptop and v1.2.2. running on my HTC Arrive.
For the import function, I have 130 records to load, so the import capability is very important to me, but it is not clear what the layout of data file should be. I have tried importing XML files and TXT files, both tab and comma delimited that I have created from an Excel file. I get the error message on my laptop “HTTP could not register URL://+8000/SyncService/. Another application has already registered this URL with HTTP.SYS.
The error I get on my phone when trying to synchronize from it is “Error while synchronizing with server. The content type text/html; charset=ulf-8 of the response message does not match the content type of the binding (the error message continues with more info and code).
I see that a version 1.5 has been submitted; however, I do not see it listed in the Zune MarketPlace.
did you notice that your comment is dated with 1999?
Import works only for previous exports made with Passwords.
The error report indicates that your 8000 port is already occupied by another app. Try another port.
If you’re trying to import any file other than one created by an export, the import will fail and produce the error message you described.
The 1999 date on my posting is simply weird. Who knows why?
Thanks for the info on import/export. Can you suggest another port number? Otherwise I will just be guessing at a port number and that doesn’t sound like a good way to assign a port number.
Latest update messed up categories and now I can’t add new entries! Please advise/update. No “templates” are available when I try to add a new entry.
Wieso funktioniert nach einem Update der WP7 App die Synchronisation nicht mehr? Obwohl alles ok sei, wurden die neuen Einträge (auf dem PC gemacht und gesichert) nicht aufs Phnoe übertragen.
Ein Backup der DB auf dem Phone sehe ich zwar auf dem PC, doch restoren aufs Phone kann ich sie nicht (keine DB mit diesem Masterpasswort gefunden…).
Ein Update der Desktop-Version von 1.0.0.48 auf 1.0.0.49 schlägt auch fehl (Sie können dies Applikation nicht von diesem Ort starten da sie sich bereits an einem anderen Ort befindet).

I have just logged into password on my htc mozart & saw a message saying converting data structures. New interface looks nice BUT lots of categories have disappeared! Like Banking & Internet. Whilst the password items themselves seem to still be present most now are not categorised. Any suggestions?
Loved it. I like the way it stored the data on your local pc, not on some cloud storage on-line. Just one thing bug me, in wp7 when testing the sync service the message title said “ERROR, test is successful”, the title should be “SUCCESS”
Feature Request: URL and email fields should be clickable.
This is one of my favorite application and regularly use this. I would like to mention about an annoying bug. When the application resumes from tomb-stoning, it prompts for password. If I don’t want to enter password or back out from this dialog, tapping the ‘back’ button doesn’t do anything. It would be great if you can fix it in the next release. Thanks for the great app.
Ich bekomme keine Verbindung zwischen PC und WP7 zum Backup oder Synch.
Fehlermeldung: “HTTP konnte URL http://+:8000/SynchService/ nicht registrieren. Der Prozess weist keine Zugriffsrechte für diesen Namespace auf”. Der Versuch der Registrierung in der Firewall schlägt fehl.
Was mache ich falsch, bzw. was kann ich für erfolgreiches synchroniseieren tun ?
in settings the button “register in firewall now” drücken und die user access control abfrage mit ja bestätigen. damit wird die windows firewall im normalfall freigeschaltet. bei externen firewalls muss ggf. der port 8000 freigegeben werden.
Port 8000 ist in F-Secure freigegeben, register in firewall gedrückt, ich bekommen aber nicht die user access controll abfrage.
Was ich bekomme ist eine Fehlermeldung: Die URL-Reservierung konnte nicht hinzugefügt werden. Fehler: 87 Falscher Parameter.
Bin etwas ratlos, zumal für ein anderes Programm, BankAccountManager, das Backup auf dem PC funktioniert.

normalerweise sollte auch der befehl

in der eingabeaufforderung mit advanced security (eingabeaufforderung mit rechter maustaste und “Als Administrator” o.ä. starten) funktionieren, wobei das ‘+:’ unbedingt angegeben werden muss. Die 87 bekommt man normalerweise nur wenn man eine ungültige adresse wie z.b. port 80xy angibt.
Auf dem PC läuft Windows 7.
Nach betätigen des Buttons “Register in Firewall now” öffnet sich ein kleines Fenster mit folgendem Inhalt.

Ich habe aber auch das Problem bei einer neu erstellten Vorlage mit einem Datumsfeld.
Vorlage lässt sich sauber erstelln, sobald mann diese dann mit Daten füttern will stürzt die Anwendung ab.

Ich habe nun eine ganze Weile die App probiert, und möcht nun ein paar Auffälligkeiten melden:
1. Die Funktion Passwort wiederherstellen geht bei mir nicht. Programm möchte immer das Passwort haben.
2. Beim erstellen einer neuen Vorlage gebe ich z.b als Feldtyp Memo an. Beim nächsten Start ist der Typ aber auf einem ganz anderem Wert z.b. Url??
3. Die Feldtypenbezeichnung ist nicht die richtige : Beispiel: wenn als Feldtyp Password ausgeucht wird sollte mann eigentlich denken das Der Typ auch Passwort entspricht, dem ist aber nicht so.
Wenn ich ein passwort genereiren lassen will muss als Feldty “Postanschrift” ausgewählt werden. das ist doch eigentlich nicht logisch, oder.

Habe ein Problem mit der Synchronisation zum Desktop. Bekomme immer die Fehlermeldung: There was no endpoint listening at http://roberto:8000/syncservice that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect adress or sOAp action. See inner Exeption, if prensent, for mor details.
Die URL adresse ist korrekt eingetragen. Kann mir da jemand weiterhelfen. Vielen Dank.

Nein. Geht auch von einem anderen PC nicht. Host sync service im Login und Register in Firewall habe ich auch angeklickt.
funktioniert es, wenn man am PC an dem der service läuft “http://localhost:8000/SyncService” im browser aufruft?
Möglicherweise ist der Port 8000 bereits belegt. Einfach mal einen anderen Port ausprobieren. Andernfalls blockiert eine Software oder Hardware Firewall. Das muss dann manuell korrigiert werden. Der “Firewall” button schaltet lediglich die Windows Firewall frei.

Ich besitze sie nun schon seid der ersten Version und versuche seit her, sie mit dem Desktop Version zu koppeln, leider erfolglos. Ich habe schon folgendes alles ausprobiert:
– Port 8000 ist nicht doppelt belegt und so wohl im Router wie auch in der Firewall freigeschalten bzw. schalte ich die Firewall in letzter zeit einfach aus im sicher zu gehen (hab nur Win 7 Firewall am laufen)
– Hab auch schon alles mit meinem Tower-Rechner versucht (Win XP)
– Ich habe versucht, die neuste Version des Desktop-Tools zu installieren, die ich hier gefunden habe (Release 30. Jan, Version 1.0.0.49), allerdings steht in der Programm-Info immer noch 1.0.0.48 drin. In dem Zip gibt es auch einen Ordner Passwords_1_0_0_49. Die darin enthaltene Anwendung bricht aber mit folgender Fehlermeldung ab:
“Die Anwendung konnte nicht gedownloaded werden. Erforderlich Dateien fehlen in der Anwendung. Wenden sie sich an den Hersteller der Anwendung.”
– Alle Applikationen wurden natürlich schon mehrfach reinstalliert. Passwörter sind alle gleich und der Haken bei “Host syn service” ist auch gesetzt 🙂
Achso, im Laptop Browser kann ich auf die Url zugreifen. Dort steht dann unter anderem:

Vom Phone-Browser aus kann ich die Url nicht aufrufen, von meinem Tower-Rechner allerdings geht es.
Sry für so viel Text, ich hoffe du kannst mir einen heißen Tipp geben, was ich noch probieren könnte, denn ich weiß echt nicht mehr weiter.

Den veralteten Link zum Setup werde ich korrigieren.
Wenn man vom Phone-Browser die Url nicht aufrufen kann, dann klingt das so, als ob das phone nicht mit dem Homenetzwerk verbunden ist. ist den WLAN aktiviert und am WLAN angemeldet? Alternativ sollte es auch funktionieren wenn man das Phone per USB verbindet. Letzteres ist auch bei der Synchronisation wesentlich schneller.
Der nächste Schritt wäre jetzt, herauszufinden, warum das Phone nicht mit dem Homenetzwerk verbunden ist.
Mit der Version 1.5 muss übrigens nicht mehr die komplette Url angegeben werden, sondern lediglich der Name das PC, also statt http://myPC:8000/SyncService nur noch myPc.
Das Phone ist mit dem W-LAN verbunden, zumindest zeigt es das an. Ich habe auch schon von Fehlern gelesen, bei denen das es Trotz W-LAN Verbindung die 3G Verbindung nutzt, vielleicht könnte es daran liegen. Auf jeden Fall klappt der Tipp mit der USB-Verbindung schon mal besser. Die Verbindung kann immerhin schon mal hergestellt werden. Allerdings kommt beim Synchronisieren die Fehlermeldung:
“Specified argument was out of the range of valid values
Paramter name: Index”
Danach muss das Programm abbrechen indem man auf den Home-Button drückt, sonst geht nichts mehr. Was als einziges gut Funktioniert, ist die Wiederherstellung. So weit Ok, weil ich Rechner alles fertig machen kann und dann durch Wiederherstellen auf das Handy übertragen kann. Wär aber trotzdem schick wenn auch die Synchro im allgemeinen funktionieren würde
Hallo, bei mir tritt seit gestern ein Fehler bei der Synchonization auf (HTC Phone 7 und Windows 7). Sync bricht ab mit Fehlermeldung auf dem Phone 7: “Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: index.”
Habe weder auf dem Phone noch auf dem PC etwas geändert.

Das klingt nach einem bug. wird mit der nächsten Version behoben.
In der Zwischenzeit sollte das mit einer Wiederherstellung behebar sein. Vorher aber auf dem Desktop das Backup öffnen und prüfen, ob auch alle Passwörter vorhanden sind.
Nach Update sind alle Kategorien verloren gegangen.
Eine Exportmöglichkeit über Dropbox war ein krönendes Feature da dieser Dienst von fast alle Betriebssytemen unterstützt wird.

möglicherweise wird es mit wp7.5 möglich, auf skydrive zuzugreifen, dann wird es integriert.

I am assuming the previous thread is addressing this issue, but I don’t understand German. Help! I have tons of info to get into the app and would love to type it into the computer and sync instead of inputing everything on the phone directly.
go to settings and click the button “register in firewall”. this should enable the port to be available for passwords.

Wohin sichert das Desktop Programm eigentlich ? Wenn ich “Backup” klicke passiert gar nichts.
Ist denn der Service in der Desktop app gestartet? Wenn ja, dann vielleicht mal statt den Pc Namen die Url (z.b. 192.168.2.107) des Pc’s im Phone angeben.
Ansonsten gibts hier schon einige Diskussionen und Lösungen.
Backups werden ins Isolated Storage der App geschrieben. Das ist ein spezieller kryptischer Folder auf den nur die eigene App aus Sicherheitsgründen Zugriff hat.
Die Backups kann man sich im Login Screen ansehn wenn man oben auf “Backup&Restore” klickt. Export/Import in ein beliebiges Verzeichnis ist dort möglich.
Everything was working fine until now when I started getting errors while trying to sync. The sync test passes, but when I sync, I get an error from service where it says – Server was unable to processs the request due to an internal error. For more information about the error, either turn on includeExceptionDetailInFaults…..
Tried several time, but same error appears on phone. I have tried after turning the firewall off.

that sound’s like bug in the desktop app. I never had such an error so I can only try to resolve it theoretically with the next update.
I know, $1,99 is a lot of money, but anyway, the price is not high enough to actually earn money with it, so have my apologies for not responding immediately and feel free to use any other similar app like 7pass.
I prefer software that is reliable, easy to use, is documented and supported. I believe such sofware is worth far more than $1.99. My time is worth money too and I don’t mind paying for quality software. I had a Palm Treo and paid $20 for Passwords Plus including the desktop client. I keep my Treo around and continue to use it for passwords until I can find something as good as, or better.

Cuz its really hard to try to sync through network, not reliable…
I have been unable to get Passwords to sync with my Dell laptop. I have tried all of the suggestions here without success. I agree that a simple USB cable sync would be the most reliable way to make this work.
thanks for your comment, but i will not increase the price. Considering the development time of about 160 hours (or even more, I don’t know) developing, investigating and evaluating with the regular $80/h I usually get, I will never make any profit with it, in addition to that fact that i still haven’t seen any cent as microsoft doesn’t manage to accept my W8-form, although they already emailed me that it was accepted. It just not very encouraging if you get low ratings only because you don’t have a solution immediately. Passwords and my other apps are still in development but it takes time and this time is my spare time.
You do know, that you can sync with USB, don’t you? I also have troubles to sync via WIFI somtimes as long as I’m using the pc by name, but it always works with the IP adress instead. But I think you already tried this.
Thanks for your response. Sorry to hear that your effort has not been financially rewarding. Developers need to make money creating apps for WP7 or there will few WP7 developers in the future. I also believe that generally, you get what you pay for. I see the WP7 as a good phone for business users who should be willing to pay more, including volume licensing fees for multiple users. Right now, I see your application as the only viable password application on the market that supports sync with a desktop client. I wish you success in the continued development of Passwords. Yes – I did try the USB sync but it did not work. I look forward to updated desktop/phone clients of Passwords and will try again then.
Hi, yes using the USB cable does connect to PC successfully but what I mean is to add function in the windows phone app to be able to import files that has been exported through the desktop program. Because although it connect to the pc, I can never sync the data to the desktop program and if I try to restore from pc when I choose the backup it always said that there is “no backup found with the specified password”.

I’m running v1.5.0.1655 on my LG Quantum WP7 running the NoDo update. I can’t seem to get the phone to sync with my laptop running Windows 7 64-bit and version 1.0.0 48 (from the tgapps.wordpress.com link).
The host name ‘seems’ to be right, showing http://TOLSONDO-T730:8000/SyncServer on the WP7 Phone, which matches what Passwords on the laptop says to put on the phone.
However, when I try to Sync, it says “There was no endpoint listening at http://tolsondo-t730:8000/SyncService that could accept the message.”
On the laptop, I tried registering the host with my firewall (at the bottom of the screen), but the command window flashed by so quickly, I couldn’t see what was happening.
Any ideas?
With a previous update, I simplified the required settings on the phone to connect to the pc. In the field “pc name” you only need to enter the name of your pc. In your case it would be “tolsondo_t730”.
If it does not work, replace the name with the ip of the pc.
Great App and I have put tons of my PW’s in it but still cannot get it to sync even with the IP. Disabled my Firewall and everything? Any Suggestions?

Don’t know if Sky Wallet is better than your Passwords App, but it comes a bit late, as Passwords was the 1st App with sync functionnalities on the market and I bought it last february. The free Windows version is really a Plus and I use and like them both a lot. Thank you for what you did.
The sync process works well for me but I am a bit confused with the way syncs are done, can you please give us some explanations, I’m sure it will help a lot of Passwords Users :
– Syncing seems to be a 4 steps process : receive categories from the PC to the Phone, send categories from the Phone to the PC, then send password entries from the Phone to the PC and finally receive password entries from the PC to the Phone.
– When receiving or sending categories, is that just the names of the categories that are sent, or the setting of the password entries within these categories too ? What if the category of a password entry has been changed for another category on Phone version of the App, is it lost and replaced by the settings configured on the PC during the 1st step of the Sync ?
– What if a particular field of a password entry has been changed on both versions, the PC and the Phone, of the App ?
As the sync of password entries begins with the transfer from the Phone to the PC, do we loose any changes made on a password entry from the PC version of the App or does the sync process keep tracks of the last change made and keep it accurate at the end ?
I have noticed another strange behaviour, I have several password entries which belong to multiple categories. On the PC Version of the App, if I uncheck one of the category that I don’t want the password entry to belong to anymore, when I save this setting, the category assignment remains for the password entry and I can’t get rid of it. I think this happens when the category I want to remove from a password entry is the main category, the one used when the password entry was first created.
This issue doesn’t appear on the Phone version, unchecking a category works well there.

categories and passwords have an unique id as well as a modification date for identification. even if the name changesd on either side, it can be identified.
the synchronizing progress is as followed:
1) all categories (including the template fields) are send to the pc. If a new category is send to the pc, the category is added at pc side. If the modification date is more actual the category is replaced with the sent category. If a category, which is available on the phone is not send, it is expected to be deleted on the phone, now category is deleted from the pc if the modification date of the category on the pc is less than the last synchronization date
2) pc sends all categories to phone. If the phone receives a new category, it is added. if the modification date is newer, the data is replaced with the data from the sent category. All categories which have not been sent from pc are getting deleted.
3) all passwords ar send to pc. The pc processes the passwords similar to categories as described in 1)
4) pc sends all passwords to phone. The phone processes the passwords similar to categories as described in 2)
category and password synchronization does not support partially updates for fields. If one fields is modified at the pc and another field at the phone, the field which was modified first get’s lost. I decided to simplify this as it is unlikely that you modify different parts of a password at both sides.
If you like to, you can test this behavior by first making a backup and then play with synchronization by modifying data on both sides. You can always restore your original passwords from backup.
I disovered a bug in the phone app which prevents a category from permanently being deleted on the phone. Although I’m currently working on passwords 2.0, I’m going to publish an update which will fix this issue. It’s currently also not possible to remove a category from a password if it is the category which was used as the template. In passwords 2.0 this will be possible, because then you can also change the template for existing passwords.

myusername ist falsch. Wahrscheinlich ist kein Konto für den User am Pc angelegt.

thanks a lot for this App! It’s really helfull and saved my day severall times 🙂
But I have some questions / comments:
If I delete categories on my phone. They are still there after starting the App again. I could only delete them on the server and make a Rebuild from the server to my Handy. So I started to build my dataset on the server and transfered them by Rebuilding the phone based on the server Backup.
But based on this I have a safety questions belonging to the settings “Starke verschlüsselung” (may be “strong encryption in english).
If I switch on this setting on my mobile and Rebuild my data from an Server-backup. Will the phone data be strong encryption? Are the Server-backup-data encrypted as well?
Reason for the question is, that I could not see any setup on the PC/Server tool to activate this encryption. So how does it work? And how can I be sure to have a strong encrypted data version on my handy (Omnia 7) at the end of this process.
Would be nice to get a hint because I don’t want to run my phone App in lower encryption.

One comment to my earlier sync problems: I had to open the service on my Fritz-Box as well. Works fine at the moment.

Im Moment gibt es einen Bug in der Phone App, die ein permantentes löschen von Kategorien verhindert. Ich werde aber bald ein Update bereitstellen, mit dem das behoben ist.
Wenn im Phone “Starke Verschlüsselung” eingestellt ist, dann wird die auch bei eimem Restore angewandt (Konkret: immer dann sobald ein Password geschrieben wird). Am Pc wird prinzipiell mit “starker Verschlüsselung” gespeichert, was bedeutet, dass in dem Fall auch der Password Header (Passwortname + zugeordnete Kategorien) verschlüsselt werden. Beim Phone ist das optional, weil beim Start immer alle Passwörter geladen werden müssen, und das ohne Verschlüsselung (theoretisch) schneller ist, als mit, die App startet dann also schneller. Normalerweise ist es auch unbedenklich, ob der Name eines Passworts (z.b. Visa, oder wordpress) verschlüsselt ist oder nicht, aber das kann jeder selbst entscheiden. Die Felder werden aber generell verschlüsselt, und auch die Synchronisation mit dem Pc erfolgt stets mit Verschlüsselung.

The “add” or “hinzufügen” Button “+” is only activ at the main view “All”.
If I select a categorie, the member list is shown but I am not able to add a new entry in this categorie.
I am not sure if this happens since deleting some categories.

Der Add Button in einer Kategorie ist nur dann verfügbar, wenn auch Felder in der Kategorie angelegt wurden, und es daher als Template verwendbar ist.

OK, got the sync working this morning. But last night, and again this afternoon, after adding new entries on the PC, I tried to sync again and it gets through all the categories, but gets to ‘Sending password 9 of 36’ (it was ‘8 of 34’ yesterday) and stops with an Error “Specified argument was out of rage of valid values. Parameter name: index” No matter what I do, I can’t get past this error right now.
When I saw it yesterday, I decided to let things settle down overnight, then tried to sync again this morning and everything worked perfectly.
Any ideas?

Still not working the next day. Same error. I’m wondering if it has something to do with me adding password entries and removing categories on the Desktop version, then trying to copy them over to the PC via sync? It SHOULD work, but maybe it’s getting confused and expects it the other way around?

Das Programm an sich ist wirklich schön, ich konnte aber kein Update installieren, da ich angeblich meine GAMER TAG geändert hab und so soll ich das Programm “neu erwerben” – ganz davon abgesehen, dass ich gar nicht weiß, was eine GAMER TAG ist oder wie man die ändert, hab ich das nicht getan.
Zu den Dingen, die mir aufgefallen sind:
– Wenn ich auf dem Handy (HTC Mozart) die Datenbank lösche, passiert das auch auf dem PC.
(und das hat mich schon einige Wutanfälle gekostet)
– Wenn ich auf dem PC die Kategorien editiere, stürzt die APP auf dem Handy bei der Synchronisation an (retrieving categories… – bleibt dann stehen)
– Wenn ich auf dem Handy alle Kagegorien lösche, um die auf dem PC editierten über Sync aufzuspielen, stürzt die App mit “bla…out of range) ab.
– Wenn ich auf dem PC Kategorien editiere (also in den einzelnen Feldern die Namen änder von User name nach Username, erscheinen all die Werte wieder auf englisch, sobald eine Sync durchgeführt wurde)
– Kategorien lassen sich nicht dauerhaft löschen.
– Einige Kategorien erscheinen nach Sync doppelt oder dreifach (ich hab “persönlich” und zwei mal “personal” und wenn ich versuche, die zu löschen, stürzt die App beim syncen ab.
– Bei bestimmten Kategorien (z.B. BANKING) kann ich auf dem Handy keinen Eintrag hinzufügen; das kleine PLUS am unteren Bildrand ist grau.
Im Moment gibt es auch noch kein neues Update.
Einige beschriebene Punkte sind werden mit dem Update behoben sein, ich hab es allerdings noch nicht in dem Marketplace gestellt und werde vorher die Liste nocheinmal überprüfen.

I’ve submitted it to marketplace today. If the testers don’t find any bugs, it should be available within a view days. There will also be a new desktop app which fixes a synchronization issue. Your existing passwords should not be affected with the update, however I recommend to have a backup available in case not.
Am I your first Australian Customer? I cannot get the sync to work between my HTC and Dell desktop. I have entered the server name and port in my HTC exactly as it appears in the settings on my desktop and when I touch the ‘test service’ it tells me ‘JDRAVN Could not connect with PC’ and when trying ‘to sync with pc’ I get the message “The remote server returned an unexpected response: (502) Proxy Error.” I have just purchased your latest version. Your advice on how to get the sync to work would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

The desktop app is older than the newer phone apps, and I have changed the settings to only enter the name and the port of the pc, not the complete url as shown in the desktop up. So just enter JDRAVN as name in the phone settings and try again. If it does not work, try the new troubleshooting page here: https://tgapps.wordpress.com/passwords/troubleshooting-sync-issues/
There are also comments from other uses who had problems to sync and what they did to fix it.

I got the latest update 2.0. None of my passwords show up. There simply an empty list and the progress bar keeps scrolling at the top but nothing shows up. I waited and let that thing up atleast 5 mins. I don’t have a backup. Any help would be greatly appreciated. For your info, I am running the Mango beta 2.
I’ve you have the mango developer pre-release, then you have a backup of your previous phone data from which you can restore. Just follow the manual with the mango developer pre-release. After restoring your previous data, you can first install the client app in order to make a backup and then try again (your current data since the mango update get lost, but this happens anyway as soon as the actual mango update is available!)
In most cases the there are no problems with automatic updates, only if somehow the device id changes. But wait before you download the desktop app, because I’m about to release an update with some minor bug fixes and localized german.
Likewise on my Samsung Focus.
After what appeared to be a successful update of the app, I couldn’t access my passwords. App also failed with a nullpointerreference after waking from a sleep because it was endlessly showing the progress bar. I backed up my passwords, which revealed that I had no passwords anymore. My last backup was nearly a month old.
The update process needs to warn you to backup, or should force a backup for safety’s sake.
The ideal design would hook into Zune sync and auto-backup the passwords file whenever phone is sync’ed.
I won’t update passwords app with any confidence going forward unless I have a full backup.
After some users reported data loss, I tried to reproduce the reason, but unfortunately I couldn’t reproduce a data loss. But it’s only a simulation since the actual update process is different. However I came to the conclusion that only two reasons could case this situation:
a) a failure in the trial check – If the app is accidently identified as trial version, It would by design delete previous data.
b) if the update 1.5 has been skipped. the update of 1.5 provided a restructuration of the data in the isolated storage. If this happened, then your lost passwords are still there and the 2.1 update would detect lost data.
Usually both cases should never happen, but that’s the only explanation.
You’re ideas are good, but unfortunately not possible. The update process is provided by microsoft and does not allow any custom procedure. So it is not possible to warn to backup before. When the update is done, your data might already be lost, although microsoft says that this would never happen with an update.
WP7 has also a deep restriction in accessibility. So there is currently no way to retreive the app data with zune sync for security reasons. That’s way I provided the desktop app and the new home server app (which actually works on every pc).
The information you provided is acutally very helpful! It appears that the data is still there but with unexpected values. This would support my theory about a migration issue.
Yes you can backup your phone data and import it on your pc. That’s what I do all the time during tests. When you start the desktop app, you have the backup & restore option on the upper right corner from where you can access all available backups and even save them as file in order to backup then on a separate medium. In backup & restore, you can select an existing backup and choose restore which then replaces the passwords on your pc with the data of the backup, It’s even possible to open a backup from there just to see what’s inside. But before you should make a backup of the desktop data itself (just click backup at the lower left corner when you’re logged in).

dissen bedeutet sowiel wie verbal abwerten, vulgo: schlecht über andere reden. Und das wird von vielen als nicht eben guter Stil aufgefasst…
konkret beziehe ich mich auf ihre negativen kommentare gegenüber mitbewerberprodukten (skywallet). Ist mir (und offenbar auch anderen) halt negativ aufgefallen.

Mein eigentliches problem ist aber nicht ihre haltung gegenüber mitbewerbern, sondern die tatsache, dass ich seit dem update nicht mehr an meine daten komme. Und das waren nicht wenige. WHS-Backup hätte ich gern gemacht, hat aber leider nie funktioniert. Deshalb hatte ich die daten nur auf meinem telefon.
Und deshalb auch meine frage: Wird es eine möglichkeit geben, die daten wiederherzustellen, oder ist das ausgeschlossen. Für eine antwort diesbezüglich wäre ich dankbar.

offenbar ist es aber auch anderen aufgefallen, dass meine kritik berechtigt ist.
obwohl es wenige user sind, die davon betroffen sind, hab ich dennoch eine analyse vorgenommen mit dem ergebnis: alle möglichen dateninhalte werden durch ein update nicht gelöscht und sind danach verfügbar. In englisch und in deutsch, egal ob sie synchronisiert wurden oder nicht. microsoft behauptet, dass der isolated storage bei einem update NICHT gelöscht wird, wenn die ProductId die gleiche bleibt, und sich der Versionsnummer erhöht. Von meiner Seite trifft da zu, allerdings vergibt Microsoft eine andere ProductId bei der Veröffentlichung. Leere Daten können nur aus 2 Gründen auftreten:
a) es gibt einen Fehler bei der Trial Prüfung, so dass beim Start die App versehentlich als Trial version ausgegben wird. Dadurch werden die Daten bewusst gelöscht. Das würde aber bedeuten, dass es auch ausserhalb der Update Prozedur jederzeit passieren kann.
b) beim Update auf 2.0 wurde die Verison 1.5 übersprungen. Mit 1.5 wurde die interne Struktur der Daten im Isolated Storage modifiziert, was beim Update von 1.1 auf 1.5 stattfand. Bei einem Update von 1.1 auf 2.0 werden also keine Daten mehr aufgefunden weil im falschen Verzeichnis gesucht wird.
Ich halte a) für sehr unwahrscheinlich und ob man ein Update überspringen kann weiss ich auch nicht, aber falls b) tatsächlich der Grund sein sollte, dann ist es möglich die Daten zu retten.
Fall b) habe ich simuliert und bereits eine Option in 2.1 eingebaut, die beim Start eine derartige Überprüfung vornimmt die Daten ggf. migriert.
Allerdings: nachdem ich für meine Arbeit beleidigt werde und man mich für Fehler die nicht in meinem Ermessen liegen verantwortlich macht, obwohl man das mit einem Backup hätte einfach vermeiden können, bin ich noch am überlegen ob ich überhaupt kostenlose Updates liefere und nicht stattessen jeweils eine neue, parallel installierbare Version anbiete, bei der man die Daten mittels Desktop Sync kopieren kann, woduch gewährtleistet wird, dass beim Update keine Daten mehr verloren gehen. Angesichts der Tatsache, dass die Arbeit von 1.5 auf 2.0 einen effektiven Arbeitswert von 10.000 Euro hat, und ich diesen Betrag durch ein Update an eine 4stellige anzahl von usern verschenke scheint das auch von meiner seite her fair zu sein. Es ging mir eigentlich nie darum von meinen Programmen zu profitieren, sondern den Anwendern professionelle Apps zur Verfügung stellen, so dass man zeigen kann, warum man WP7 über iPhone oder Android bevorzugt – das framework mit dem die apps entwickelt werden, biete ich bislang auch kostenlos zum download an, so dass auch andere programmierer darauf zurückgreifen können, um bessere App zu entwickeln, aber wenn dieser Aufwand nicht gewürdigt wird, sehe ich keine Veranlassung dazu.

das alle Einträge seit dem Update weg sind ist schon doof. Zum Glück hatte ich nicht allzu viele Enträge gespeichert. Sonst muss ich sagen, dass mir die App sehr gut gefällt. Werde jetzt auch die Backup-funktion für den Desktop nutzen, damit sowas nicht nochmal passiert.
Eine Frage hätte ich allerdings noch: Warum funktioniert das Synchronisieren nur, wenn ich die IP meines PCs eingebe, anstatt des Namens??? Ist nicht besonders schlimm, mich wundert es nur… liegt es vielleicht an meinem Router oder so?

was genau ist nach dem update passiert?
Warum das mit dem Namen nicht richtig funktioniert, weiss ich auch nicht. Ich erlebe das auch manchmal bei mir, dass ich ploetzlich mit dem Namen keine Verbindung mehr bekomme, aber nur sporatisch. Ich hab auch den Router in Verdacht, weil der fuer die Namensaufloesung zustaendig ist, Koennte aber ein WP7 bug sein, weil mir das seit Mango nicht mehr passiert ist.
Nach dem Update war halt alles weg was ich so an Einträgen hatte und ein nicht endender Ladestreifen oben am Rand hat da vor sich hin geladen…
Ich habe es auch schonmal geschafft mich mit meinem PC-Namen zu verbinden, aber, wie du oben schon sagtest, auch nur zeitweise.
Finde es klasse, dass du so engagiert an der App arbeitest und diesen Blog hier als Service anbietest *thumbs up*!

Die Beschreibung des Fehlers klingt gut. Das bedeutet, dass sie mit dem 2.1 Update wiederhergestellt werden koennen, falls sie noch nicht mit einem Backup ueberschrieben wurde. Das Update muesste demnaechst verfuegbar sein.
Mango ist offiziell nur fuer registrierte Entwickler verfuegbar. Man bekommt dann eine eMail mit den links um Zune und das Phone fuer Mango vorzubereiten. Allerdings muss man diese Verversion wieder zuruecksetzen, damit man das eigentliche 7.1 update aufspielen kann, d.h. alle persoenlichen Daten gehen dann verloren und sind auf dem Stand von vor dem Mango update. Wenn man es unbedingt haben will, dann geht das auch als nicht-Entwickler. Allerdings kann ich nichts genaueres dazu sagen, weil ich mich nie damit beschaeftigen musste.
PC Backup fails…
Unfortunately I also upgraded to the latest Desktop App without prior backup. After uninstalling the previous version the corresponding backups were also deleted.
Since all passwords are still stored on the phone I tried PC backup: After the phone reporting success the Desktop app showed 0 passwords and 0 categories. Retrying 26 passwords and 9 categories were reported as synced. Trying again yielded 0 passwords and 0 categories…
Opening the nonempty backup crashed the Desktop app. XML export generated an file with default values, not password data.
Syncing yielded various kinds of exceptions, e.g. “Value can not be null”… “Sync Error Der Server konnte die Anforderung aufgrund eines internen Fehler…”
Is there any way to backup my phone password data to the PC (and then import into the Desktop app)? Or what needs to be done in order to sync (without deleting phone password data)? Will the forthcoming updates of Desktop app and/or phone app resolve these issues?

unfortunately upgrade to 2.1/1.2 did not resolve my issues. trying to open/restore the backup from my mobile crashes the desktop app “System.ArgumentNullException”…
syncing does not work either, passwords are not correctly transferred to desktop app.

Lost all passwords after recent upgrade
after investiging that isue, I came to the conlusion that this might be a migration issue which should have happened with version 1.5
If this is the case you’re data is still there and the next version 2.1 will check this and recover your lost data.
But I can’t guarantee this, since it is a situation which should not be possible unless you skip an update. All tests I made ever caused lost data, except a direct update from 1.1 to 2.0
I installed the latest update and lost all my invaluable data. What the hell happen? I’m so fricking upset I’m besides myself. No, I didn’t backup the file before installing the upgrade 😦
Honestly, I have no idea why this happened, I validated all possibilities and testest all possible situations and it worked fine.
The only way how this might happen would be a failure during the trial mode detection, or if the data has not been migrated to a new internal structure which happened with the previous version 1.5.
If this is an migration issue (what means that you skipped an update, what I thought is not possible), then I could provide a migration check together with the next update (which btw will improve the performance in a way as it was improved between 1.0 und 2.0). But your situation is a rare case I don’t provide functionality to merge the “deleted” data with the new data. If the update detects lost data, You will be informed at startup where you can decide to replace the lost data with the current, to delete the migrated data, or to continue in order to make a backup of the current data before you decide to migrate.
Another way to get your data back:
If you made a phone upgrade, (nodo or mango in case you’re a developer) then you have a phone backup on your pc from which you can restore, including the passwords on that time. But it would also mean that all data you added meanwile get lost though you can reinstall all purchase apps again without to purchase them again (which is as sure as a backup should never delete any data, btw!).
But wait and let the migration check of the next update try to find your lost data.
And please: download the desktop app or home server service application and make backups.
Both are completely free. And it prevents you from loosing your passwords, which could happen due to various reasons, e.g. what if the memory chip as a failure?
I don’t think it is a migration issue (I may be wrong), because I didn’t miss any update. If I remember correctly, this is the 2nd update after I purchased the app in February. When the first update came (I think 1.5), it messed up all my categories when it migrated the data to the new format. I re-arranged some of them, but didn’t have time to do the rest. Now, after the 2nd update (2.0) I don’t see any of my data. It is really frustrating after entering all the data one by one from my old WM6.1.
If I were you, I would pull ver 2.0 back, so not to frustrate more users. So far, I can see 3 complaints (including me) of losing data on this thread.
I am a developer too, I know how painful it is to replicate such things (when someone see an issue that can’t be duplicated at your end). I really want to help you, please let me know if I can be of any help.
Well, if this is a migration issue, the 2.1 update will fix this, if not, then the lost passwords will still not be there. I think it could happen if there are passwords which have an invalid field type. I limited the numbers in the version 1.5 and assumed that with 2.0 i could rely on the fact that the migration in 1.5 would have sucessfully convert the data. On tests that I ran there where no problems with an update from 1.1 to 1.5 and then 2.0 but maybe I missed something.However if I provide an invalid enum (it’s still an encrypted xml which parses the enum value as string) it would cause an exception. As the loading procedure runs in a separate thread the thread would terminate and never populate the collection. This is also suggested by anither hint that the progressbar is running all the time and never comes to an end. I thought that this is a minor bug in case there would be indeed no data, but I found out that this would not happen. So my assumptions seems to be correct. This also means that it would indeed affect only users who never synced with the pc since in that case the data would always be validated, and this indicates that you also didn’t make a backup 😉 Thanks for your help, I appreceate this. I’d already submitted the 2.1 update. Please let me know if your passwords where resurrected.

Zum thema skywallet, stilfragen etc. nur noch ein paar (von meiner seite gerne abschließende) worte. Ich kannte die app bisher nicht, weiss also nicht, wie der entwickler sich ggü. anderen entwicklern verhält. Ich habe nur in den “Passwörter”-bewertungen den “wie es in den wald hineinschallt…”-kommentar gelesen und bin dadurch neugierig geworden und hab die skywallet-bewertungen gelesen. Der weiter oben beschriebene eindruck hat sich mir dabei aufgedrängt. Sollte ich etwas missverstanden haben, ziehe ich meinen kommentar dazu zurück.
Es ist auch keineswegs so, dass ich ihr produkt nicht schätze. Ich habe es schon vor vielen monaten erworben und viel benutzt. Auch ist die (bisherige) preisgestaltung sicher alles andere als überzogen. Die motivation, wp7 als OS zu fördern, finde ich ebenfalls gut.
Ich habe auch bewusst, trotz dem ärger über den verlust meiner daten, darauf verzichtet, die app negativ zu bewerten.
Jetzt aber nochmal zu dem aktuellen problem seit dem update:
Nach dem eingeben des masterpassworts erscheint die “favoriten”-seite und die farbigen progress-würfelchen laufen permanent am oberen bildrand. Ich kann scrollen (“Alle”, “Kategorien” etc.), aber alle seiten sind leer. Die lupe unten öffnet das suchfeld, suchen geht aber nicht. Das pull-up menu funktioniert, ich kann z.b. kategorien bearbeiten oder die einstellungen aufrufen – wenn ich zurück gehe, laufen die progress-würfel immer noch durch.
Es wäre großartig, wenn das 2.1-update meine daten retten könnte.
Das ein backup prinzipiell sinnvoll ist, ist klar. Leider bin ich an einem whs-backup aber, wie gesagt, bislang gescheitert.
Das mit der ProgressBar könnte ein Bug meinerseits sein, was ich prüfen werde. Ich vermute, dass es passiert wenn keine Daten vorhanden sind.
Wenn keine Passwörter im Panorama angezeigt werden, können auch logischerweise keine Passwörter beim Suchen angezeigt werden.
Meine Hypothese dass die Daten noch zu retten sind wurde bereits durch eine Beschreibung eines anderen Users bestätigt. Allerdings kann ich nicht mit Gewisseit sagen, dass es auch definitiv so ist.
Um die Desktop und Home Server App werde ich mich zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt kümmern und Verbesserungen anbieten. Weiterhin kostenlos und als open source.

Please be patient and wait for the 2.1 update. I hope this will recover your lost passwords.

I would like to know where it saves the backup by default. This program is a complete mess as far as the desktop version is concerend. I have literally hundreds of possible backup locations and files created by the app when I do a search. Also what is the default named for the backup it creates as it didnt give me a choice.
Every time I open it it seems to create a new location and I have to start over. I thought I finally got it working and had a couple of important passwords saved in there and backed them up. Now I have no passwords again and waiding through all this crap it’s impossible to find a legitimate backup file, especially since I don’t know wha tit named said file.

IsolatedStorageFile.GetUserStoreForApplication();
the physical path changes only when you reinstall the application. due to security reasons, the exact path cannot be predicted. The only time when the path changed was during the update of version 2.1 unless you have not uninstalled the previous version, both version should be available, each with it’s own isolated storage (that’s why it’s named isolated).
The isolated storage is backuped with common software such as home server backup so you should not be concerned about the location. To export and import explcit backups there is the export/import function.
The name of a backup is based on a Guid (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.guid.aspx) which is also not predictable since equal Guids will never exist.
The design of an isolated storage is also by default that it is deleted when you uninstall the associated application. So in contrary it is not a mess but a very clean design by microsoft.
Love the passwords app, and have used it for a year with a US associated live-id… but now with mango, I have changed to a danish live-id.
Passwords doesn’t show up in the app list available for Denmark – anything you can do about that ?? I can’t beleive it should be a rights question… and I’m willing to pay for it again
I have changed it to worldwide distribution (which is new on marketplace). For some reasons, not all countries where selected by default. Should be available in Denmark soon.

Has anyone else had duplicated entries on the phone after a sync with the PC? I’m on 2.1/1.2 and am seeing this quite regularly, even when sync’ing to a PC with a ‘clean’ (I.e. only the install defaults) database.
Which passwords are duplicated is quite random, and only on the phone — not on the PC.

Gibt es für den PC auch die Möglichkeit, das ganze direkt in den Browser zu integrieren? Mochte Zugangsdaten zu websiten, als auch FTP,… Speichern.
Was passiert, wenn ich vom heim-PC auf Handy sync, bei meiner Freundin mim Laptop bin und wieder sync?
Eine Browserintegration, insofern dass Passwortfelder automatisch gefüllt werden ist nicht vorgesehn (das macht im Prinzip schon Windows Vault seit Windows 7).
Die Synchronisation mit mehreren Clients ist bislang nicht vorgesehn. Was passieren würde:
1) phone wird mit pc a synchronisiert. Am phone werden die Passwörter als synced markiert.
2) phone wird mit pc b synchronisiert, b) hat keine Passwörter.
Was jetzt passiert, ist dass das phone annimmt, dass die Passwörter am pc gelöscht wurden, und löscht sie daher auch am phone.
Multisync mit mehreren clients ist aber eine geplante Erweiterung, nicht nur zwischen pc und phone sondern auch zwischen pcs.
Geplant ist dass man nur bestimmte Passwörter auf einem PC synchronisieren lassen kann, z.b. einen Office pc wo die privaten Passwörter nichts zu suchen haben.
Wann wird die deutsche Desktop-Version fertig sein?

derzeit bin arbeite ich an eine komplettüberarbeitung mit neuer metro dynamischer metro oberfläche.
Nun ist fast ein dreiviertel Jahr vergangen. Ich habe mir gerade Passwords.RC1 vom 12.02.2012 installiert. Leider noch immer keine deutsche Version. Woran liegt das??

Im Skydrive Folder gibt’s eine Hotfix Verzeichnis. Da ist die aktuellste Version drin. Bin noch nicht dazu gekommen das zu aktualisieren.
Nach meinem Kalender haben wir erst Juni und nicht schon Dezember, daher ist auch erst ein Vierteljahr vergangen 🙂
Passwords und alle anderen Projekte sind ja nicht kommerziell mit Wartungsvertag (was um die 1000-2000€/Monat kostet), sondern freie Projekte. An den Apps mache ich das was ich selbst benötige. Deutsch ist eine Sprache die ich nicht verwende daher dauert es bis ich mal Zeit und Lust hab.
I quite like this app. Love the clean Metro style interface and its various features so bought it after only short time. However, today I noticed Password Manager introduced Skydrive sync with the ability to add passwords via Excel and then sync it with the phone app via SkyDrive, which is a really great feature (http://wmpoweruser.com/password-manger-mango-version-with-skydrive-sync-released). Do you think that is something you can add to your app as well as it would make it so much easier to backup and update a large batch of passwords.
yes, the next version will not only include skydrive backup & sync but also multisync with different devices filtered by categories. For instance, it will be possible to sync only office related passwords with your office pc by limiting the synchronization to passwords with the category office or whatever you like.
The next version will be available after christmas/new year and brings some general performance improvements.

Just installed v3 beta (desktop) and found an error during restore: If the name of the password is too long, it will break, I had to exit, delete, exit then modify the name of the password in v1.2 and restore again in v3 beta

für mich ist die Importfunktion von herausragender Bedeutung.
Soweit ich verstanden habe, geht das nur aus alten Backups des eigenen Programmes.
Das ist sehr schade, da ich seit Jahren FlexWallet 2006 verwende (damals noch für Windows Mobile) und wenig Lust habe, > 100 Einträge von Hand hinzuzufügen.
Ist eine Importfunktion (CSV-Format) geplant?
Xml wäre besser. Ich hab mir gerade die Exportdaten von FlexWallet angesehn und bei CSV fehlen die Kategorieinformationen.
Eine spezifischer Import ist relativ einfach, einen Import aus der Datenstruktur eines beliebigen Fremdsystems hinzubekommen wesentlich komplizierter. Eine erste allgemeine Importschnittstelle wird aber demnächst verfügbar sein. Möglicherweise gibts am Montag schon eine Beta.
Cool, also wenn ein XML-Import aus Flexwallet funktioniert ist das Programm gekauft!
Das ein dynamischer Import aus Fremdtools schwieriger ist, kann ich als Entwickler nachvollziehen.
Ich würde dennoch einen dynamischen Import programmieren, ggf. mit fertigen Templates für Fremdsoftware. So fällt eine Anpassung später um einiges leichter.
Dann warte ich mal gespannt. 🙂

Passwords 3.0 ist a complete different program so it is not an update and does not import the data from a previous version automatically. But you can export your data with the previous version and import it into the new one. Password 3.0 starts with sample data which can be deleted by going to settings->delete, or if you restore from a backup.
You also need the new phone update in order to sync or backup with the pc, or you can backup on skydrive and restore from skydrive on both pc and phone.
After moving from the initial version of passwords 3 to the RC0, I couldn’t login. The problem is that there is no way to get to setting -> restore unless you login (unlock). I also tried uninstalling the app but the DB is not deleted so I had to search for the DB and manually delete it, then restore a backup.
It will be good if there is a way to get to settings and/or delete DB without the need to login.
I found another issue in RC0: If I import the passwords from prev version, then do a backup (to file) exit the app, open the app and create a second backup, when restoring the second backup in my phone or another desktop, the fields of the entries looks empty.
I checked the backup files and the first is 41k vs 16k the second.
If I make a change to an existing password and do a 3rd backup, when restoring that backup I see all passwords with fields empty except for the one I changed.
Seems the backup is not storing everything but only the delta since last backup.

It also happened if you start and select a category other than all. In that case the details where also not included in a generated backup.
This is fixed in RC1.

ich habe deine App gekauft und bin sehr zufrieden damit. Klappt soweit alles bestens auf dem Phone und am PC inklusive Synchronisation (Phone Vers….3.2, XP-PC Vers…RC1)
Ich habe da mal ne generelle Frage zur Sicherheit der von der Software verwalteten Passwörter.
Mir ist klar, dass eine Verschlüsselung stattfindet und so die Datenbankdateien nicht direkt gelesen werden können. Das Phone hängt im Netz und kann theoretisch unbemerkt angezapft werden.
Wie wird dafür gesorgt, dass niemand z.B. mit einem entsprechenden Decoderprogramm auf meine Daten zugreifen kann?

Anders als z.b. bei Android ist es bei Windows Phone nicht möglich direkt oder über Internet auf die Daten einer App zuzugreifen, sofern die App keine Schnittstelle dazu hat. Selbst die installierten Apps können nicht untereinander auf die Daten andere Apps zugreifen weil sie in einer Sandbox laufen.
Passwords hat keine Schnittstelle mit der man irgendwelche Daten unbemerkt auslesen könnte. Selbst die Synchronisation zwischen Phone und Pc ist asymmetrisch verschlüsselt. Dadurch ist es auch nicht möglich, das Netzwerk anzuzapfen und so die Daten mitzulesen. Das Passwort das zur asymmetrischen Verschlüsselung verwendet wird, ist bei jeder Synchronisation ein anderes, und nicht vorhersehbar. Bei den Backups auf Skydrive müsste man erst 2 Passwörter knacken:
a) das von Skydrive
b) das des Backups.
Der Folder in dem die Skydrive-Backups erstellt werden ist per Default private. Natürlich könnte man das manuell auf Public setzen, so dass jeder darauf Zugriff hat, aber wenn man das macht, ist man selber schuld.

warum bekomme ich seit Phone Version 3 keine Sync mehr mit dem Pc hin. Hat immer geklappt. Habe ich die falsche PC Version oder was mache ich falsch. Egal ob ich PC Namen oder IP eingebe.

Mit 3.0 wurden sowohl Phone als auch PC App komplett überarbeitet und die Synchronisation ist mit älteren Versionen nicht mehr möglich.
Die neue PC Version wurde bereits vor der Veröffentlichung der Phone Version angekündigt:

Wer garantiert, dass diese Apps sauber sind. Gibt es dafür eine unabhängige “Third-Party”, die diese Art Apps prüft und freigibt?

ich möchte auch noch mal ausdrücklich unterstreichen, dass ich hier keinem Softwareentwickler kriminelle Energie unterstellen möchte. Aber in einer solchen Passwort App werden u.U. die vertraulichsten Daten hinterlegt. Der Missbrauch dieser Daten kann großen Schaden anrichten. Ich als Anwender einer solchen App muss mich darauf verlassen können, dass absolut niemand auf die Daten Zugriff hat. Ich weiß nicht, ob es eine technische Erklärung dafür gibt, um meine Bedenken auszuräumen oder ob durch die Zertifizierung einer solchen App durch eine unabhängige Prüfstelle der Missbrauch der Daten ausgeschlossen werden kann. Ich brauche einfach mehr Input darüber, wie so eine App gestrickt ist.
Über eine informative Stellungnahme würde mich freuen.

Jede App muss von Microsoft freigegeben werden. Diese prüfen automatisierend auf Stabilität und Styleguide. So muss z.b. der Back-Button richtig funktionieren und bei Multilanguage muss jeder Text in der richtigen Sprache angezeigt werden. Microsoft prüft nicht womit eine App kommuniziert. Im Prinzip hat nur der Autor Zugriff zu dem Sourcecode. Man kann den zwar veröffentlichen, aber da man keinen direkten Zugriff zu den installierten Apps hat, kann nicht überprüft werden, ob das auch der tatsächliche Code ist, oder ob etwas ausgelassen wurde.
Um zu überprüfen ob eine App mit einem nichtauthorisierten Service kommuniziert bleibt nur die Protokollierung der Zugriffe z.B. über einen WLAN Router falls dieser das ermöglicht.
Wenn Verdacht besteht, dass die App was anderes tut als sie sollte und z.b. Daten ausspioniert kann man das bei Microsoft melden. Jeder App Developer ist ja registriert und kann daher relativ einfach dafür zur Verantwortung gezogen werden.
Allgemein kann man aber sagen, dass von allen mobilen OS Windows Phone am sichersten ist:

Bezüglich Windows 8 Apps schreibt Microsoft folgendes:
“Prior to your application being made generally available for download and sale, it undergoes rigorous checks and tests to verify that it does not contain maleware or exhibit suspicious behavior, and that it meets the security policy provided with the application. You also need to make your applications available for user ratings and reviews. As a result, users can trust aplications that appear in the store, making them more likely to download your software than they would from a traditional e-commerce site”
Es ist anzunehmen, dass das auch für Windows Phone gilt.

das hört sich für mich soweit ganz plausibel an. Ich habe mich die letzten Tage im Netz zu dem Thema umgeschaut und dort im Prinzip ähnliche Aussagen gefunden. Zumindest habe ich dort keine Aussage gefunden, wo darüber berichtet wird, dass schon mal ein direktes Abfischen von Daten aus solch einer App vorgekommen wäre. Ich denke mit WP7 sind wir da tatsächlich noch am besten geschützt. Dann könnte man ja auch noch darüber nachdenken, ob man die 2,3 wirklich brisanten Zugriffsdaten wie z.B. den Zugang zum Onlinebanking nicht besser generell nur im Kopf ablegen sollte.

Ich kann dir versichern, dass ich bei Passwords keine Hintertür eingbaut hab und es so designed hab, dass man keine Möglichkeit hat an die Passwörter zu kommen. Ich benutze es ja selbst.

jetzt habe ich die neuste Version für PC 3.0 RC1 und Phone 3.2 aufgespielt. Sync klappt aber nicht. Ich habe beim Sync beide Versionen geöffnet. Fehlermeldung ist folgende: The remote server returned an error NotFound. Was mache ich falsch? Ach ja, der Ping-Test funktioniert.

Möglicherweise funktioniert die Namensauflösung nicht. Einfach mal stattdessen die IP des Pcs eingeben (z.b. 192.168.2.105 – kann man mit ipconfig.exe herausfinden).
Ansonsten kommt es auch vor, dass es wireless Probleme gibt, aber mit Usb Kabel funktioniert, daher einfach mal mit angeschlossenem Usb Kabel und Zune ausprobieren.
Haven’t found where to write a feedback so I write it here. I like both desktop and mobile apps (the best one on WP7 at the moment i think), but there are still some negative momends:
1. Annoyng keyboard sound when typing in a pin code on a phone, is it possible to turn it off? It would be great if it turned off by turning off keyboard sounds in a phone global settings (or may be an option in the app itself).
2. When I tryed to add a field to a template in desktop app it was constantly replacing “Passwords” with “passwords” (first letter is lower-case). It is a minor issue, but why is it so? 🙂
3. There were data access errors when I tryed to recreate database (desktop app). Something like trying to write null values to not null database fields, can’t remember exactly.
4. Phone app hangs with a black screen after trying to unlock it, it happens after device screen has been turned off i think.
That’s it. Hope this feedback will be usefull. 🙂
1) The keyboard sound is the same as on the phone which by default is on. I can add an option to disable it for the next major update.

Aber es fehlt mir etwas entscheidendes auf der PC Seite:
Ich möchte Daten in das Memo-Feld speichern können die Zeilenumbrüche enthalten.
Das funktioniert im Moment nicht – oder ich bin zu doof.
Auch Daten aus der Zwischenablage die Zeilenumbrüche enthalten werden nicht richtig einfügt – immer nur die erste Zeile.
Wäre wirklich schön – sonst ist das Memo Feld fast nutzlos.

Leider doch nicht – die Version 3.02 habe ich jetzt eingespielt, aber die Memo Funktion ist nach wie vor unverändert. Auch mit neuem Template kein Erfolg.
Weder kann ich im Memo Feld ein Return setzen, noch kann ich etwas mit Zeilenumbruch ein kopieren.
Was mache ich falsch?

HOW TO GET SYNC FROM PC WORKING
I’ve just installed Password for PC and thought I’d leave some feedback for other Users and the developer that may be of some help. BTW I’m running Windows 7 & Windows Phone 7.5 (LG Optimus 7)
Background:
I initially installed version V3.0.2.16.08 (the one named “Passwords.RC1.Setup at download URL listed above) but when I couldn’t get it to sync (suspect it just required the Firewall rule I latter created) I uninstalled this version (had to as it wouldn’t let me install over the top with the HotFix version) then installed the latter version 3.0.2.2751 called “Hotfix” on the download site (https://tgapps.wordpress.com/sync-your-phone-with-pc/ )
Everything is now syncing really well from PC to Phone – see more details below.
My Environment when syncing:
On PC:
* Zune NOT running, PC & Phone connected via WiFi router.
* MUST create a Windows 7 Firewall rule which allows listening by ANY program from ANY external source on TCP port 800.
* On PC in Passwords program MUST go into Settings\Phone\Phone Synchronisation & Click “ON” (needed to do each time you launch program unless you enabled “Run at start up”)
* To test (on PC) enter this URL in browser: http://localhost:8000/PasswordsSync/ping/Test
You should get this response: “Test response“
On Phone:
Lauch Passwords then go to “Sync with PC” (press the “…” and this option should appear) the select “add pc” and enter a name (anything you like) and your PC’s IP address (leave other fields at default)
After completing this step you should have the name you used listed – just press this and the phone should connect and sync.
Question to developer:
Can you give some guidance on the Fire wall rule – I would like to tighten it up if possible as I don’t like allowing ANY program to listen for traffic from ANY IP so I:
1) Tried limiting it to C:\Program Files\tomssoftware\Passwords\Passwords.exe but sync fails as it uses “System” to listen on port 8000.
2) Tried limiting to listen for traffic ONLY from my Phone’s IP address (both in local & remote IP setting in FW rule Scope tab) but this fails so have to set it to listen to ANY incomming IP. This is a strange one since I’d expect that since the traffic is comming from my Phone’s IP this should work.
Any feedback on how I can tighten the FW rules would be good.

Update re Firewall Rules.
I didn’t realise that WIndows 7 has set my home WiFi network as “Public” so I have changed that to “Private” and can now tighten the required Firewall rule by enabling only “Private” on the Advanced tab. This means this rule will only open this port when I’m attached to my safe home network so that means I can leave it enabled rather than manually disabling\enabling it all the time.

feature request: Ich möchte die eingegebenen Informationen gerne ordentlich formatiert Ausdrucken können. Workaround: Es sollte die Möglichkeit geben, die Daten zwecks Weiterverarbeitung auch als unverschlüsseltes XML zu speichern. Umgekehrt wäre das Importieren von unverschlüsselten wohlgeformten XML-Dateien wünschenwert um das initiale Befüllen zu erleichtern.
Ein Import Wizard für beliebige Xml-Struktur existiert bereits. Möglicherweise hab ich es aber noch nicht gepublished.

Thomas, Ich habe mich auch sorgen gemacht ueber die daten Sicherheit. Koennen Sie erklaeren wieso das App zugang haven muss zu Contacts, Owner identity, music and video library und phone identity?

Im Code selbst sind die Berechtigungen gar nicht angegeben und werden auch nicht benötigt. Daher habe ich es mal analysiert und festgestellt, dass diese Berechtigungen notwendig werden, wenn das AppControl (für die Werbung in der Trialversion) verwendet wird. Genaugenommen sind es die folgenden Berechtigungen die das AdControl benötigt:
ID_CAP_PHONEDIALER
ID_CAP_NETWORKING
ID_CAP_IDENTITY_USER
ID_CAP_WEBBROWSERCOMPONENT
ID_CAP_MEDIALIB
Wozu das AdControl von Microsoft diese Berechtigungen benötigt kann ich allerdings nicht sagen.
Passwords selbst benötigt nur einen Netzwerkzugriff sowie Zugriff zu Web-Browser und e-Mail Erstellung, aber nicht zu Kontakten und Owner identity. Andere Daten als die Passwörter werden in der App nicht angefasst, und diese Daten werden auch nicht weitergeleitet. Der Transport erfolgt ausschliesslich in verschlüsselter Form zwischen Skydrive oder dem Pc. Auch am Phone selbst sind die Daten auf der SD Karte immer verschüsselt. Das Masterpasswort dazu selbst wird nirgends gespeichert.
Andernfalls würde ich es selbst nicht verwenden 🙂

ich hätte mal eine Frage zu den größeren Notizenfeldern bei der Phone Version, die bis auf eine Kleinigkeit gut funktionieren: Was bei mir nicht funktioniert –> könnte auch der User sein 😉 ist die Bearbeitung einer längeren Notiz. Ist das Fenster kleiner als der Notizen Text (kommt bei mir leider häufig vor), kann ich beim bearbeiten nicht nach oben scrollen. Nur die oberste sichtbare Zeile kann ich anwählen, aber nicht weiter nach oben scrollen.
Bin ich zu doof oder funktioniert das einfach nicht. Und wenn nicht, könntest Du da noch was daran ändern?

Das scrollen innerhalb einer Textbox ist bei Windows Phone so implementiert, dass man das Textboxfeld gedrückt halt bis, der Cursor erscheint und dann den Cursor überhalb oder unterhalb der Textbox schiebt. Dann erscheint auch ein kleiner Pfeil nach oben oder unten und der Text scrollt. Gleiches gilt für scrollen nach links oder rechts.
Ja klingt kompliziert und ist auch so, aber ich hab das nicht designed!

Schon wieder ich – diesmal mit einem kleinen Bug. Ich habe jetzt eine Notiz erstellen müssen in die ich wirklich viel rein gepackt habe. Dank des Hinweises mit dem Scollen auch kein Problem.
Leider wird der Inhalt des Notizfeldes in der Normalansicht aber nicht vollständig angezeigt. Zeile 48 ist vollständig drin, Zeile 49 nur ein klein wenig – alles danach wird abgeschnitten.
Ich kann den Inhalt zwar sehen, wenn ich auf bearbeiten gehe und dann skrolle – aber eventuell läßt sich das ja leicht beheben.

kann man die Datenbank “Passwords.sdf” auf dem Desktop-Rechner an einen anderen Ort verschieben? Für mich ist der Pfad unter ..\Roaming ungünstig, da ich alle meine Daten auf D:\ speichere.

Wenn man die Datenbank und Passwörter via Einstellungen-Menü löscht und danach eine neue Kategorie anlegen möchte, kommt eine Fehlermeldung. Irgendein exeption-Fehler. Nach klicken von OK stürzt die App dann ab und man landet am Startscreen.

wobei die Sicherheit vom angeg. Passwort der Datei abhängt. Mit der Windows 8 app wird sich das insofern ändern, dass ein kryptographischer Key mit 256 bit verwendet wird, der manuell zwischen den Geräten eingetragen werden muss. Ist zwar aufwändig, aber sicher, sofern man den Key nicht irgendwo bei Facebook bloggt.
Zusätzlich ist der Zugriff auf den Skydrive Folder normalerweise mit der Live-ID passwortgeschützt.

ich hätte da noch ein paar Fragen bzw. Anregungen:
1) Wäre es möglich oder könnte man es einstellen, dass die Suche eine Volltextsuche wird. Aktuell durchsucht er ja nur die Namen der Einträge. Wenn man aber nicht genau weiß, wo etwas steht wäre eine Volltextsuche echt hilfreich.Gilt für PC und Phone Version
2) Auf dem Phone wird in der Ansicht der Notizfelder nach 48 Zeilen abgeschnitten, auch wenn das Feld länger ist.
3) es wäre hilfreich bei der PC Version den Pfad für die Datenbank anpassen zu können. Ich würde die gerne auf die Datenpartition oder auf ein Serverlaufwerk schieben.

Die Synchronisation meines Lumia 920 (aktuelle Passwords Version) mit dem PC ( Win 7) funktioniert nicht. Bitte um Hilfe.

Ich vermute mals es geht um die PC->Phone Direktverbindung. Das sollte eigentlich weiterhin funktionieren. Für das Lumina 920 (und alle Win8 Phones) kommt demnächst eine neue Version (kein Update) die an die Tablet Version angepasst ist, die diese Woche verfügbar sein sollte und per Skydrive synchronisiert. Die Pc Variante muss ich entsprechend noch für Skydrive Synchronisation anpassen. In Zukunft wird aber nur noch über Skydrive synchronisiert. Dazu wird kein Passwort, sondern ein 256-bit Key zusammen mit einem Random Salt zur Sicherheit verwendet. Letzteres bedeutet, dass die gleichen Daten mit gleichen Key trotzdem jedesmal unterschiedlich verschlüsselt sind.
Wenn man die Bezeichnung eines Feldes ändert wird das Feld mit gleicher Indexnummer dupliziert. Bei der Bearbeitung eines Eintrags dieser Kategorie kommt es folglich zu einem Programmabsturz
Hi. As someone else already reported, I confirm that the keyboard sound at the login doesn’t follow the global sound settings. If I put my phone on vibrate mode only, I still get the very loud type sound at the login. Very annoying bug. I’m on windows phone 8 using the latest version of Password. That’s the main issue i have with the app, otherwise a very solid password application. As s suggestion for future release, maybe having the ability to rearrange the order of the elements in the password sheet. Would very useful. Thanks for your time on developing tgis app. Keep up the great work.
thats not a bug, it’s a feature because the numeric pad is a custom control.
But maybe you’re right, it might be loud on new phones. When I created it with my HTC Mozart, I chose a volume which is not too silent and not too loud, but compared with my lumia, the volume in general is much loader than on my older HTC.
Passwords for Windows phone 8 does not yet have this feature (and is still not available yet but in certification process).
What do you mean with rearranging?
With Passwords 7 you can specify the order of each field by editing the category.

There now appear to be two different versions of Passwords in the Windows Phone store – version 8 and version 3. Version 3 is the one I purchased almost 2 years ago.
Are both of these versions going to be updated in future? I am using version 3 on my Lumia 920 and everything is working fine.

yes passwords for windows phone 7 is still being updated.
the next update will add sync functionality with windows 8 /windows phone 8.
however I recommend to use the windows phone 8 app on a lumia 920, its a far better expierince.
It’s not that you have to pay $199 for the wp8 version!
I have an exception problem when I try to oppen Passwords 3.0 in my PC ‘System.Data.Entity.Internal.AppConfig’.

Ich habe Passwords8 gekauft und installiert. Leider kann ich nicht mit der jetzt zum Test heruntergeladenen WP8 Version syncen. Weder via lan noch finde ich eine Skydrive Möglichkeit. Was muss ich tun?
Im App-Menü gibts die Option “Synchronisieren”.
Falls nicht, dann handelt es sich nicht um Passwords8 sondern um Passwords für Windows Phone 7. Letzere untersützt noch keine Synchronisation. Der Core von WP8 und W8 ist ähnlich, aber WP7 ist nicht dazu kompatibel, deshalb wird das sobald ich Zeit habe separat implementiert.
Wann kommt denn die Version für WP8 mit Skydrive Sync. Handy per PC koppeln funktioniert bei mir auch nicht (und ich habe alle Tips versucht) Lumia 920

Ich habe dein Programm schon auf meinem Windows Phone – UNVERSCHÄMT!! Aber du wirst den Post ja doch nicht veröffentlichen. Ich fand dein Programm am Besten aber 2,99€ und nun NOCH EINMAL 3,99€ für ein Update um einen Abgleich über Skydrive zu haben – du hast echt NERVEN!

windows phone 8 und windows phone 7 apps sind 2 unterschiedliche produkte die nicht kompatibel sind, daher kann es von 7->8 auch kein update geben.

Du schreibst, dass es keine Sychronisation mit dem PC mehr geben wird, wenn man auf die 8er Version aufsteigt. Jetzt gleiche ich aber mehrere PCs (über einen Server) und das Handy miteinander ab. Mit der jetztigen PC Version, gleiche ich also nichts ab. Ich meine oben gelesen zu haben, dass eine neue PC Version kommt… aber wann??
Auch wenn ich mich lieber mit dem PC direkt abgleichen wollen würde (ich traue der Cloud einfach nicht), so würde ich diese Krücke halt akzeptieren.
Schöner fände ich es aber, wenn Du die PC Sync irgendwie wieder rein bauen könntest..

Der direkte Abgleich ist nur mit PC und nicht zwischen Phones und Tablets möglich. Es wäre schön, wenn das z.b. mit Bluetooth ginge, aber leider wird das
bisher nicht supportet. Ich habe den Skydrive sync aber so sicher wie möglich gemacht, z.b. indem ich kein vom User generiertes Password verwende sondern immer einen cryptographish generierten Zufallskey. Dadurch werden die Daten a) durch das skydrive-Passwort b) durch den 256 key geschützt.
Eine direkte Synchronisation wöre aber auch lieber. Ich weiss nicht, warum Microsoft das nicht ermöglicht.
Wann wird es die Skydrive fähige PC App geben – so ist das immer nur über Backup/Wiederherstellung als Umweg möglich – hat man aber auf beiden Seiten Änderungen vorgenommen geht halt was verloren, wenn man nicht aufpasst.
Mir wäre der Abgleich direkt an den PC wie früher wesentlich lieber – ich traue der Cloud nicht weiter als ich spucken kann…

I am preparing to upgrade to a Lumia 920 from my Samsung Focus. I want to make sure that I have a readable passwords file on my PC before I do the upgrade, but I’m having trouble reading the passwords file backup with both my Windows 8 and Windows 7 PCs. When I attempt to import a password file that was saved on the PC or on SkyDrive, I get the error “Validation failed for one or more entities. See ‘EntityValidationErrors’ property for more details.’ This error is generated by the SQL Server Entity Framework. Is there any extended logging or debugging feature I can turn on to determine which password entry might be causing the problem?

Love the app, it was the first app I bought for Windows Phone, and I really appreciate the Metro interface that looks like a built-in app. However, I can’t delete custom fields from password entry. The delete button caption says “save” and it looks like that’s what it’s doing.

Ich habe eine Frage: Mittlerweile nutze ich die Version 8.0 auf meinem Lumia 920. Wie kann ich dort die die Schablonen verändern? Oder anders, wie bekommen ich ich zu einem abgelegten Eintrag ein Feld z.B. für die IP – Adresse hinzu?
Mach weiter so…! Ich wünsche mir noch viele tolle Apps von dir :=)

die Schablonen lassen sich bei Windows Phone 8 / Windows 8 nicht ändern (derzeit).
Wenn man aber die (+) buttons anklickt geht eine Liste mit Feldern zur Auswahl auf.
Update von Passwords + ShoppingLists für Windows 8/Windows Phone 8 ist übrigens demnächst auf dem Plan.
Leider habe ich nicht soviel Zeit wie ich gerne hätte.
I do have a problem with Version 8 on my Samsung Ativ S. Longer text in the notizen field are not shown properly. As I scroll down about 30 lines the screen goes black and the remaining lines are not visible any more. I did have problems on the Win7 version with longer text as well – but this is new.
What is strange, that once the field goes blank scolling back up does not help. Just the header stays visible.

I have been using Passwords 3 for a year now and am very satisfied with it.
As a suggestion for future improvement of the tool might I suggest the possibility to make backups of subsets of the database in addition to the full backup.
This would make it easier to sync passwords for new applications with colleagues and excluding your private passwords from the backup file.

grundsätzlich haben sie da eine klasse app programmiert zudem das interface sehr schön reduziert ist!
allerdings: auf grundlage ihrer app-beschreibung im marketplace und der dokumentation kann ich mir nicht sicher, dass die hinterlegten passwörter ausschließlich auf meinem windowsphone gespeichert bleiben und nicht an den entwickler (oder dritte) übertragen werden. die datenschutzerklärung auf https://tgapps.wordpress.com/privacy-policy/ ist mir hierzu zu schwammig und nicht eindeutig genug.
warum gibt es kein klares statement, wie mit so sensiblen daten umgegangen wird? vielleicht kann in diesem zusammenhang der app-zugriff auf identität von eigentümer und handy, auf die kontakte sowie auf die foto-, musik- und videobibliotheken hinterfragt / erläutert werden?

wenn Sie Skydrive-Synchronisation verwenden, dann werden die Passwörter auch mit dem kryptographisch generierten 256-Bit Key auf Skydrive übertragen. Der Zugang zu der Datei ist wiederum nur mit Ihrem Skydrive Passwort möglich.
Was das Thema Skydrive und Zugriff auf Kontakte, Fotos, Musik aund Videobibliotheken betrifft, das werde ich bei Gelegenheit nochmal genau mit Beispielcode erläutern. Im Prinzip ist es so, dass ich nur Zugriff zum Schreiben in Skydrive anfordere (wl.skydrive_update) aber zusätzlich die Rechte für persönliche Informationen, Kontakte, etc. erhalten (wl.basic + wl.skydrive_update). Das wl.basic erhalte ich also ohne es überhaupt zu wollen. Möglicherweise ist es auch ein Bug in der Skydrive API.
Am besten ist es immer, man kontrolliert selbst, was eine App wohin sendet, indem man beispielsweise Tools wie fiddler verwendet. Dazu werde ich bei Gelegenheit ein Tutorial schreiben.
Das Statement werde ich mit dem nächsten Update entsprechend ausführlicher formulieren.

danke für diese tolle Software.Ich bin selbst Softwareentwickler (aber bisher nicht für Windows Phone) und ich denke, genau so muss eine Windows Phone Software aussehen und funktionieren. Weiter so!
Ich habe auch noch zwei Fragen: Beim Thema Kategorieren oder Templates (ist das eigentlich in “Passwords 3.0” das gleiche) finde ich nicht so recht durch: Ist es so, dass man Kategorien nicht mehr auf dem Handy verwalten kann? Ich bekomme es nicht hin, Felder zu einer Kategorie hinzuzufügen.
Und wenn ich einen neuen Kennworteintrag anlege kann ich zwar eine Kategorie auswählen, das wirkt sich aber überhaupt nicht aus. Die angebotenen Felder beim Anlegen des Passworteintrages entsprechen danach trotzdem nicht der Kategorie.
Was mache ich denn da falsch?

Ein Update für Windows 8 ist in Arbeit u.a.
mit besserer Performance (bislang gibt es Probleme bei >200 Passwörtern),
neuem PC 2 PC direct sync über Sockets (auch später mit phone als nächster Schritt),
Option für Userdefinierbare Felder,
Überarbeitung der Öberflächen
uvm.
W8/WP8 unterstützen keine Templates mehr weil das durch die gruppierten (fixen) Felder nicht mehr notwendig ist und an den Kontakten von W8 angelehnt ist. Im übernächsten Update wird es aber wieder Templates geben. Mit dem letzten Update von WP7 wurde die Synchronisation für WP8/W8 angepasst, die eben keine Templates mehr haben, deshalb ist die Funktion wohl nicht mehr so möglich wie ursprünglich vorgesehen, wenn man mit W8/WP8 synct. Templates werden aber später wieder integriert.
